Danielle Douphinette, BA is the founder, owner, manager and head instructor at Plum Grove Equestrian Center. Dani has been riding for twenty-five years, teaching for fifteen years and has owned Plum Grove Equestrian Center for ten years. Dani has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Management with a specialization in Equine Business Management at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY. She has competed in USDF recognized shows and USEA sanctioned events and countless schooling shows in Dressage, Eventing, and Hunt Seat on self-made horses. Dani was a working student for Keith Angstadt, Bradford, MA and Alisha Taylor, Exeter, NH. She has done clinics with Michael Plumb, Bobby Costello, Robin Groves, and Judy Westlake. Dani currently trains her Irish Sport Horse “Fionna” with Verne Batchelder, Williston, FL.

Dani combines her passion of riding and love of horses into each individually tailored lesson to help you improve and work on your unique goals with riding. Her specialty is to take eager new students who are just learning to ride and bring them through the lower levels of eventing and dressage. (Training level eventing and second level dressage)

All riders can gain confidence and improve skill by learning from a balanced seat and a quiet horse.

Through the development of the Plum Grove Show Team, Dani is able to work with more serious students who wish to display their hard work in the show ring. The lessons are focused on individual goals, which may be dressage, jumping, or a combination of both. Each week includes an unmounted component where students learn basic horse care, show ring prep of horse and rider, and more. Guest speakers and field trips are also included. “Our show team is based on comradery and sportsmanship rather than what color ribbon is brought home. If the student is improving in confidence and skill, learning from mistakes or circumstances, and is generally having a good time showing, I consider that a win.”

Training with Dani at Plum Grove

Dani has taken on several green horses or “problem horses” and improved them through dressage basics. She is a quiet, confident rider who isn’t upset by “naughty” horse behavior. She believes that each horse has a unique potential and with patience, it can be realized.

Plum Grove also has three assistant trainers.

Erika Tighe has recently earned her MA instructor’s license under Dani and continues to be an essential part of the Plum Grove team! Erika has been riding for ten years and has been working with preschool age children for seven years. She has a degree in elementary education. She decided to put her love of teaching children and riding horses together and developed our “Lessons for Littles” program at Plum Grove. When not instructing, Erika can be found hanging out with Talia or playing with her dog, Kai.

Molly Lister has recently earned her MA instructor’s license under Dani and has been instructing at Plum Grove for two years of Saturday mornings! Molly enjoys working with children, but she is hoping to grow more of a beginner adult following as she enjoys explaining the concepts of riding in depth. When not instructing, Molly can be found working hard in Boston or enjoying her horses Scorpi and Justin.

Emily Guy is a senior at Essex Tech in the Equine Program and is an assistant instructor at Plum Grove. Emily began riding with Dani on Hayley, Plum and CJ when she was only four years old! Fourteen years later, she has started her co-op at Plum Grove and cares for Plum, Hayley, CJ, and all of the horses here! Emily enjoys riding the sales horses and assisting in instructing younger riders on Saturdays. When not at the barn… we don’t know what Emily does because she’s always at the barn! 😉
